Ellis Island Simulation
The goal of the Ellis Island Simulation was to gain an insight into the lives of immigrants in 1908 while they tried to start new lives in America. When starting this project, my group created our characters and worked on our autobiographies. Once we sort of had our accents and costumes, we went to the mock customs with our passports and passed with flying colors. It was very fun to experience. After the customs we met at my house and filmed our documentary. We decided that since we had characters, that this time we would not use a script and simply outline the scene and improvise. It felt very natural and took way less time than a scripted video would have. I think that next time, we should leave more time for editing because we did not have quite enough time to properly edit our video. I think the Ellis Island Simulation was very well put together but maybe in the future it could be better to remove one of the many elements that encompass this project, like the autobiography, passport, etc. The most entertaining part of this project was the mock customs because it was very funny to interact with normal people as Oscar Sitek.
