Junior Year

I have discovered a few new, very strange, aspects of my character since last year. I have had multiple life-changing experiences and it's only December. I barely got out of my Sophomore year alive and I have scars to show for it, but as soon as I got home I started creating adventures. I went to Europe with my fellow Cibacians, I sought help to treat my depression, I obtained my driver's license, I went to my dads' wedding. Theses events and many more have influenced my attitude towards the world and changed me. Last year, I had a pretty dark view of life, but now I know my mission. I must always live presently and without fear of possible (unlikely) futures. I will strive to bring love and compassion into the world, because that is something we currently have a deficiency of. I will always be my authentic self, and never filter my identity for the sake of societal comfort. On the days where they need it I promise to be there for my friends when they are struggling, because I know when I am, I'll look up and see them with nothing but support. No matter what I face in my life, I solemnly swear to continue on, creating as many adventures as I can along the way.

FasTrak

The FasTrak project aims to teach us about our individual vocational interests and goals for the future. We were tasked with finding an internship in our respective fields and to create a product to show what new knowledge we had gained from our experience. All of which would culminate around our CIBACS websites.

From the beginning of the school year, I had known that I wanted to pursue an internship in a career relating to language and culture. Therefore, when I heard that my father's friend from work, Sheryl Curl, worked in a translation and cultural competency program, I was excited. To my surprise, Mrs. Curl was very enthusiastic about helping me with my project. This came as a shock to me since we had been cautioned about mentors who may not be interested in helping us.

My internship took place over winter break on December 19th and 20th. I walked around her department interviewing the translators who worked there. There was a translator for Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Farsi, ASL, Mandarin, and Korean. I even spoke briefly with the woman who spoke Mandarin in Mandarin.

Once second semester had come around, I needed to start brainstorming ideas for my product. I struggled a little but then came up with the idea to do a roleplay.
